Mrs. Barbara Adriance, BPS Assistant Principal,
helps students maintain safe and healthy work habits and respect towards others.
For consistency and fairness, the school's Code of Conduct Committee has guided administration in developing a Behavioral Chart with consequences for various undesirable words and/or actions. One side details Level I offenses (relatively minor) while the other side details Level II offenses (moderate to severe). Consequences increase in severity according to the number of discipline reports within the same category. In some categories, the consequences are lower for grades 1 and 2 due to the developmental differences in age levels. All disciplinary write-ups are processed with the individual child in order to review the choices made and learn strategies for making better choices in the future. A white Parent Copy is always given to the student for their parent or guardian to read, sign, and return on the next school day. Recess Room, the most common consequence given, is another opportunity to process the incident.
At BPS, we feel strongly that trips to the office should not be about punishment; they should be about logical consequences and learning positive social skills. After all, everyone makes mistakes—especially at the lower elementary level. The important thing to remember: The behavior may be bad but the child is good!
