Spring Vacation April 16th - 20th

Wellness Day

Wellness Day is a “whole school” program that takes place near the end of the school year. Each staff member organizes a leisure time type activity (sports, crafts, etc.). The goals of the program are to introduce our students to leisure activities, develop relationships with other students and staff members, and to have fun!

On June 11, 2010 we had our wellness day for this school year.  One of the activities was songwriting with Mr. Litchfield, our School Social Worker.  He allowed the students to choose the topic and they decided to write a song about their concerns with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  At the end of the activity, they performed the song over the intercom for the entire school to hear what they had created.  Here are the students and their lyrics:

Front Row L to R: Peggy, Andrea, and Kristen
Back Row L to R:  Kelsey, Angelina, Abigail, Mr. Litchfield, Jared, and Brendan

We Won’t Turn Our Back

Darkness on the Horizon
Sky is Blue Ocean Black
Sticky sheen on the sand
Everybody lend a helping hand

I look into the ocean
Can’t see my reflection looking back
Black clouds turn to smoke
Too many losing hope

Reduce the oil
Reuse our trash
Recycle the cans
Let’s make it last

Ducks stuck in the oil
Wrapped around its coil
Blue sky turning grey
Getting worse everyday

Reduce the oil
Reuse our trash
Recycle the cans
Let’s make it last

All the animals need to be saved
Hurry up before it’s too late
So many people staring
We won’t stop caring

Keep the generations flowing
Keep the animals going
Keep the ocean blue
For me and you

The water is black….But we won’t turn our back (4 times)
