BHS Morning Announcements

March 5, 2010

A little more information on the symptoms of the H1N1. Symptoms of seasonal influenza and H1N1 are the same. Signs of Influenza illness are  fever of 100 degrees or higher and a cough or sore throat. If a student has these symptoms, it is very important to report this to his/her physician. Exclusion from school requirements from CDC are that a person must be fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication (Tylenol, ibuprofen) before coming back to school. The average time that a person with H1N1 virus will have a fever is 3-5 days. It is important to remember cold/flu etiquette: frequent hand washing; stay home if you are sick; cover your cough. For more information visit www.maineflu.gov.

Attention seniors and other students:

This is a reminder that the senior lunch privilege does not start until second semester, and that it is a privilege that is conditional, based on passing classes and being in good standing with the school.

It is apparent that there are students who are leaving school to go out to lunch, taking advantage of the fact that it is difficult to stop everyone and there are students from other schools coming and going from the cot in the middle of the day.

This is a safety and a school liability issue, as we are responsible for knowing where you are during the day. We will be increasing patrols outside as a result. Please be advised that we will be assigning ISS to students who are leaving the building or coming back from lunch without a valid dismissal. Do not leave the building unless you have a valid pass in your hands, as we will assume that you are leaving without permission. Even if you have a college class or internship, make sure you have some documentation from your guidance counselor in your wallet to avoid problems.

Also another reminder: Students are not to be going out to their cars to get lunch money, books or other things without getting a pass from the office. Do not use your car as a locker. You all have been issued lockers here for this purpose. Again, we will not be giving warnings for this, effective today.

Thank you and have a good day.
